The cunning elven spell breakers, or spellbreakers, have mastered the arts of spellcraft to such a degree that they have become immune to the effects of even the most powerful magics. Coupled with their fierce combat skills, their spell immunity makes them implacable foes when facing magic-wielding enemies. However, the spell breakers' most astonishing ability is to actually steal their enemies' beneficial enchantments and grant them to their own comrades. This uncanny ability has turned the tide of more than one battle in the elves' favor.

Long-since faded from memory since the days of Kael'Thas' betrayal, and only recently revived as an order by Lor'themar Theron to deploy on the Isle of Thunder, the Spellbreakers are strictly elves utilized to demolish enemy magi by draining their mana completely, reflecting their spellwork easily, and even stealing beneficial magical effects to bestow on their allies. They wield a signature, large bulwark that boasts a remarkable resistance to all schools of magic.

The deadly, two-bladed swords of the spellbreakers strike fear in the hearts of wizards and sorcerers. The elves' elite warriors employ these frighteningly effective weapons to execute outlawed spellcasters, necromancers and other evil practitioners of magic. Their two-bladed sword is the bane of any evil spellcaster. The blades can cast globe of invulnerability when spun, and can make casters forget spells. Additionally, the powers of the Spellbreaker are terrifying to those with knowledge of magic, for their blows shatter the mana from a spellcaster's body.

Captain Varo'then and Queen Azshara's Royal Guard are seen as the precursors for modern Spellbreakers.

Despite their exile after refusing to partake in the fel, some within the Highguard continue the path of the anti-magic living bulwark, and are lead by Master-At-Arms Vaessina Lae'shalar.
